Director, Global Market Access & Pricing, Oncology

The Oncology Global Market Access and Pricing is a diverse, collaborative and dedicated team of leaders and experts, integral to the Oncology development and commercial organization in shaping and delivering innovation that matters most to patients living with cancer.
Your Role: You will be primarily responsible for developing, refining and guiding implementation of the Global Lifecycle Market Access and Pricing strategy for the current registrational Avelumab development program. This spans multiple diverse tumor types and patient populations with a rapid succession of multiple phase III trials expected to read out in the next two to three years. These strategies need to be developed and aligned both internally within Merck but also in collaboration with our alliance partner, Pfizer. This role will also act as point of contact representative for an innovative multi-company and stakeholder initiative aiming to collect sufficient cancer therapy utilization data from hospitals which can be used for innovative contracting with payers in Europe. This initiative may support optimization of MAP strategies not just for Avelumab but for our future pipeline too.
Key Accountabilities
Development and rollout of the Global MAP Strategy across the product lifecycle
Formulate early-thinking of Global MAP strategy with the appropriate level of rigor for pipeline compounds
Determine optimal payer positioning
Ensure the capture of payer insights via primary and secondary methods; integrate into Global MAP strategy development
Develop and implement the Global MAP strategy and tactics
Assess the impact of competitors / competitive events on pricing and reimbursement potential
Integration of the payer perspective into Commercial strategy
Represent Global MAP on the Franchise Leadership Team and relevant R&D Product Teams ? use these fora to proactively shape EMD Serono strategies to succeed
Communicate implications of payer requirements to the Franchise team
Integrate and build alignment around the Global MAP strategy into the marketing strategy
Execution of the Global Pricing Policy ? Guidance and Governance
Establishment of pricing guidance and administration of the pricing governance process within Merck and across Pfizer Alliance
Supervision of associates in their assessment of price requests and country business cases
Ensuring pricing inputs / assumptions to the forecasting and strategic planning process
Development and delivery of core Global MAP deliverables to Key Country/Regional organizations
Provide training to build product & therapeutic area knowledge, thorough understanding of Global MAP strategies and tactics
Ensure that Global MAP strategies are cascaded to Country / Regional organizations with an actionable implementation plan
Develop and rollout the MAP Toolkit including the MAP strategy, payer value proposition and value communication tools, contracting models and other resources for demonstrating compound value
Support Regional MAP to tailor the Global MAP strategy
Provide direct support to "priority markets" in achieving reimbursement
Support and enhance the development of clinical, economic, and humanistic evidence to optimize pricing and reimbursement
Assess payer evidence requirements for pipeline and inline compounds to determine potential evidence gaps
Establish Global MAP alignment with HEOR and other evidence generation functions on the mitigation plan for addressing evidence gaps
Provide input to the GPT / R&D teams on clinical trial protocols to optimize pricing and reimbursement potential
Contributions to Global MAP leadership to ensure effective integration with key business partners
Provide updates as applicable to the Global MAP senior leadership team
Establish excellent collaboration with GPT, Medical Affairs, Franchise, HEOR and Government Affairs peers, and with Regional Market Access Heads
Who You Are:
Bachelor's degree in science, pharmacy, medicine, statistics, accounting, economics, business or public health
10+ years of industry related experience
At least 5-7 years of experience in either pharmaceutical market access or pricing, and/or related experience in Commercial/ HEOR capacity
Experience in developing and implementing Global market access and pricing strategy and integrating into Development & Commercial Strategy and plans ? both launch and pipeline brand experience preferred
Fluent in English
Ability to lead and influence in a matrix environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to communicate and influence effectively with peers and leadership; having a persuasive and credible presentation style at all levels of organization
Strong process/project management skills and business acumen
Excellent analytical skills and ability to draw insights/derive viable strategic options from the analytical research
Good understanding of major market reimbursement systems, current health policy topics and working knowledge of health economics
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%
