Senior Employee Relations Manager, Healthcare

Your Role:
Reporting to the Global Head of HR Business Partners, Healthcare North America & Global Innovative Medicine Franchises, the Senior Employee Relations Consultant is responsible for providing strategic direction, support and consistency in the design, implementation and practice of HR-related policies, practices and employee relations actions for Reproductive Health and Endocrinology, Neurology & Immunology, Oncology and Immuno-Oncology, Cladribine tablets, an investigational, oral, small molecule being developed for the treatment of relapsing multiple sclerosis, as well as EMD Serono's currently launching fertility technology business, an innovative suite of medical devices, software and services geared toward the IVF lab and the following marketed brands:
BAVENCIO?, a prescription medicine used to treat a type of skin cancer called Merkel cell carcinoma and may be used when your skin cancer has spread as well as a type of cancer in the bladder or urinary tract called urothelial cancer. BAVENCIO? may be used when your cancer has spread or cannot be removed by surgery (advanced urothelial cancer), and you have received chemotherapy that contains a platinum-containing drug and it did not work or is no longer working.
Rebif? (interferon beta-1a) is used to treat relapsing forms of MS to decrease the frequency of relapses and delay the occurrence of some of the physical disability that is common in people with MS.
GONAL-f? (recombinant follitropin alfa for injection) prescribed to supplement or replace naturally occurring FSH, an essential hormone to treat infertility.
Serostim? indicated for the treatment of HIV patients with wasting or cachexia to increase lean body mass and body weight and improve physical endurance.
Saizen? (somatropin for injection) is indicated for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency (GHD) in children and adults.
EMD Serono is pursuing activities in selected indications for highly specialized therapeutic areas mainly treated by specialists. In addition to Phase I products focused on oncology, immuno-oncology and autoimmune disease, the pipeline includes products that benefit patients who suffer from the following cancers: gastric, ovarian, urothelial, renal cell, head and neck tumors, hepatocellular, as well as multiple sclerosis, chronic plaque psoriasis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, systems lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis with interstitial lung disease, and osteoarthritis.
In partnership with Healthcare HRBPs, HR Centers of Excellence and Legal, coordinate the design, planning, and implementation of EMD Serono' s North American (NA) Healthcare employee relations programs, policies, and procedures. Provide strategic direction, governance, support and consistency in the design, implementation and practice of HR-related policies, practices and employee relations actions across EMD Serono NA Healthcare (EMD Serono, Global Innovative Medicine Franchises, Commercial, SRDI and GMSO). In collaboration with Legal, serve as a subject matter expert in employee relations knowledge and at the direction of Legal, monitor and advocate for compliance with all federal, state, local laws and company policies.
Primary liaison for creating strong, professional and effective partnerships with internal Legal Counsel, Compliance, HRBP's, Finance, COE's and HR Services to drive organizational effectiveness through adherence to sound and best employee practices and performance management principles.
Member of the HC North American & Global Innovative Medicine Franchises HR Leadership Team. At times, depending on agenda topics, will be asked to attend the US HR Country Council meetings to provide expert input, governance and best practice sharing that could influence the wider US cross-sector EMD organization.
Establish the strategic direction of the management of all employee relations activities in support of driving a performance-based and engaged culture. This includes definition of key processes, governance, risk management, roles and responsibilities as well as operational efficiency across all HR Functions in partnership with our employment law Legal team.
Introduce Best Practice thinking by researching and evaluating similar organizations' best policies and practices to enhance overall capability and performance of the HRBP team members and the broader organization.
Provide proactive input, advice, governance and partnership with HRBP's in organizational changes and work force reductions, following a consistent framework and at the direction of Legal.
Investigation of complex and other employee relations issues and at the direction of Legal.
In partnership with our Legal team, design and execute training and/or communication for HR Business Partners, other HR functions and managers and employees on new and existing practices and policies to ensure consistency throughout the organization and to mitigate employment and legal risk.
In partnership with our Legal team, track and analyze employee relations issues and trends to partner with the HR organization to propose solutions to address gaps identified and trends in data by providing coaching, direction and development to HRBP team and design and provide proactive manager training on all HR elements of managing employees at EMD Serono.
Develop frameworks across the NA Healthcare organization for all aspects of HR governance and policy and manage deliverables and project risks.
Implement a robust audit process of key HR policies and guidelines for the business and lead all audit requests.
Ensure that SOP's are written and regularly updated to drive operational excellence and tactical execution of employee-based transactions across all Functions in HR (COE's, HR Services, and HRBP team).
Partners with the Legal team and is the HR Lead for all Healthcare HRBP related matters including but not limited to:
ADA accommodation and the associated interactive process
First HR point of contact for review of all new policies, procedures and benefits programs and the associated communications in partnership with Legal and the HR COEs.
Proactive auditing and analysis of metrics (i.e., turnover, diversity, performance)
Assist Legal, as needed, with the review of all sales contests and incentive plans
Manages coaching on performance issues specifically for the delivery of performance plans and year end feedback and ratings
Makes corrective action recommendations up to and including termination recommendations in appropriate partnership with Legal for elevated risk situations and assessment.
Partner with the business and the appropriate COE's to develop and process for Field Force Certifications
Develop, using bench marks, a FWA policy with the associated documents, communication, training and tracking that also aligns with the overall Global and Regional cross-sector company guidelines and goals.
Serve as the HR contact for any internal HR compliance issues and T&E Violations, working with Legal and Compliance as appropriate.

Who Your Are:
Bachelor's Degree required, with a focus in HR Management or Employment Law a plus. Graduate degree also a plus
Minimum of 10 years of employee relations and broad human resources generalist experience with strong background of handling intricate employee relations issues
Biopharma industy experience highly preferred
Expert level and knowledge of employee relations principles, practices, methods, and programs across the North American (NA) region
Strong NA regional knowledge and understanding of federal and state employment and labor laws, regulations, procedures, and standards.
Expert in managing projects and stakeholders and influencing and working within a highly matrixed environment.
Excellent Word, Excel and PowerPoint Skills
Business acumen, business management and the ability to create and apply HR Solutions that align with the business strategy and drive business results
Demonstrated experience working in partnership with Legal, Compliance, Finance, COE's and the business to create and independently drive programs, policies and practices that support a high performing and engaged culture. Able to translate broad strategy into specific objectives and action plans.
Demonstrated experience in critical thinking to understand the impact of decisions across the organization and how to drive broader solutions.
Proven experience of program management and ensuring appropriate frameworks are established across the business for all aspects of HR governance and policy.
Demonstrated experience of leading audit processes and driving action plans from audit findings.
Capability to analyze trends, understand business needs and drive performance-based solutions that positively impact the business by using trends, analysis, data and information.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
